Understanding your cohort group
For this assignment, you need to describe your cohort group. In doing so, please address normative history graded influences, normative age-graded influences, normative sociocultural influences and nonnormative life events. To complete this assignment, examine the following issues and questions:
1. What year were you born?
2. Do you know of any important historical events that occurred around the
time of your birth?
3. What important events do you remember as having affected you and your
peers during your school years (for example, assassinations, space
exploration, political upheavals, wars, natural disasters)? Describe how
these events have influenced your development, and made your development different from other groups.
4. When you were in the fifth grade, what attitude did most people have toward:
a. mother's who worked outside of the home
b. father's role in child-rearing.

5. Discuss your development and cohort
group in terms of the influences stated above (history, age,
sociocultural and life events).
6. Discuss how your development and cohort group are different from your
parents and from your children or younger siblings.
