  For Wed, just read Sonnet 71; continue to work on the paper due next Monday, which is the creative piece in which you are an Elizabethan character.
Week 10:

For Monday, March 14th:

  • Read Sonnet #73
  • Story: Imagine that you are living in Elizabethan times. Write your story in a way that includes a lot of the information we have studied lately: the historical and cultural and religious features of the time; the theater (as a playgoer and as an actor); the language. Add to this something about an actual play, like Macbeth or The Merchant of Venice. The challenge is to blend in this information without it appearing phony or stilted or even remotely related to an essay. It’s a story and you are a fictional character; you might want to add other characters too, and perhaps add some dialogue.
    • Give this to me in your portfolio that also includes…
      • your cassette tape, all cued up to fresh tape;
      • your last essay, plus the transcript and boo-boo page;
      • a new “Dear Jimbo” letter that lets me know how things are going for you in the class and in life.

1. Read Act III of Merchant;

2. Write a one-page response to the 3 actors we saw today acting out Act III, scene 1.
