2. We'll have a quizlet on the poetry terms we've learned so far.

Wed. Feb. 2 Your first explication essay is due. I also want a cassette tape and a "Dear Jimbo" letter, which is just your brief, casual way of letting me know how things are going for you.

By 5pm on this day I want you to come to my office (Cedar 7) and recite the poem that you wrote your paper on.

For Wednesday, February 16th, continue analyzing your poem with special emphasis on the musical elements at work in your poem. Also, do the handout that I gave you: for each of the 15 selections, choose which of the two options is more likely the correct poem based on musical evidence. Give a brief reason for your choice. (For those who were absent, you can find this handout in a folder on the chalk tray near the file cabinet in Cedar 10.)

No more God of Small Things.  Come with Othello and your notes for the next essay that compares Serendib with God of Small Things.
Week13:

For Monday, April 4th: Nothing!
Week 14:

For Monday, April 11th:

  1. Find a picture (or draw one of your own) for each of the main characters in Othello.

  1. Examine Act III, Scene 3 in Othello. In this scene, Iago manages to convince Othello that Desdemona has slept with other men. Explain how Iago succeeds in getting Othello to believe such an obvious lie. Why does it work? To answer this, look at the character traits and relationships that are established before Act III. Provide direct quotes.

You can write this as either an informal mini-essay or you can just list the categories of ways it works, plus quotes for proof, plus your comments.

This will be worth about 50 points.
