What to do for Monday, March 8th:

1.      For extra credit: Read the next short story, “The Shell Collector”

2.      Things from the Character Paper:

    1. Write a transcript for the new tape (remember to include a 5 minute free-write at the end that states your response to the tape);
    2. Write a boo-boo page (your errors, the rule for that error, and a sentence or two that drills that in);
    3. Rewrite of the character paper.
    4. Insert all of this in your portfolio (keep all of the same things in there).

3.      The Profile Paper:

a.      Write your first typed draft and have three more copies to give to your group.

b.      This paper needs to include the usual group of sentences:

1.      a dash;

2.      a colon;

3.      a semi-colon;

4.      an –ing;

5.      “…,” he said, -ing…

6.      simile

c.       And it needs to include all the stuff we’ve been learning:

                                                                           i.      Character: show through what the person does, says, looks like, and owns; and mix these elements up in your writing.

                                                                         ii.      Maybe have yourself as a character in here—if it fits for you;

                                                                        iii.      Have dialogue, have dialogue, have dialogue;

                                                                       iv.      Have all the itty-bitty grammar things correct, especially those I’ve pointed out to you on the past tapes.

                                                                         v.      Have the writing full of energy and wit. Make it a performance.

                                                                       vi.      Use your senses; be vivid and concrete and specific. Could a director or painter produce these people and scenes based on your writing?

What to do for Wednesday, March 10th:

  1. Extra credit: Read the next short story, “Baby Wilson”

  1. Hand in these things:
