Course description:     A survey of important mathematical ideas.  This course will explore Logic, Sets and Counting, Probability, Statistics, Matrices and Markov Chains.

 

Text:    Mathematics, A Practical Odyssey, 5th ed. by Johnson and Mowry

                        We will cover chapters 1 through 4 and chapter 7.

 

Calculator:                  2-variable statistics required, TI-83 preferred (instruction book necessary for help with other calculators.)

 

Important Dates:        May 13 – Last day to apply for refund

May 20 – Last day to withdraw without a “W” on record

May 20 – Last day to apply for CR/NC grading

May 27 – Last day to withdraw

May 31 – Holiday

 

Student Expectations:

 

Ø      Plan for at least 20 hours homework each week

Ø      Pay attention to deadlines and important dates

Ø      Be present for all quizzes and exams
