Basically, the course is set up as if it were taught F2F; that is I have helped to organize your time by assignments and deadlines. The best piece of advice I can offer at this point is do not procrastinate
in an online class.
First things First - Familiarize yourself with the online class. I encourage you to print out as much as possible. Print, Read and Plan accordingly.
Assignments - Follow the “Steps for Success” in each lecture. This will ensure that you have completed each week’s assignment. You will find a drop box for each
unit (A-D).
Reading Assignments - Read as much as the text as possible.
Though I only require what is assigned to you in the lecture. The
text will be a resource used well beyond the class. The goal each
week is for you to learn and practice different Internet Research
techniques.
Online Challenge - As in any new
or specialized subject there is new vocabulary to learn. It is open book and posts to your grade book promptly.
Communication - Read the Announcements. Threaded discussions are a very important component in the online class. Think of them as in lieu of the face to face discussion that would occur in the classroom. There will be casual and mandatory weekly discussions to participate in. I post emails and announcements from time to time. There are many ways to communicate in an online class. If you need some live, one on one, we can schedule a chat room or whiteboard discussion. We can even talk on the telephone.
Final Project – You will be required to upload your Final
Advanced Internet Research project. Checklist of requirements and rubrics are provided in the weekly assignments folder.
