Academic Courses
There are five core academic courses that apply to the Fire Science Major.
These courses may be applied toward an Associate in Science Degree.

Certificate Program in Fire Technology
|
|
Certificate programs at the college are designed to prepare vocational students for employment. |
|
|
The Fire Technology Certificate of Achievement is awarded to
students who complete the Firefighter 1 Academy and Emergency Medical Technician Training. |
The Fire Academy
|
|
The Firefighter I Academy (FIRE 101) consists of lecture and hands-on skills training sessions. |
|
|
The academy is intensive, and challenging! You will work hard in an environment that promotes camaraderie and teamwork. |
|
|
The academy meets the requirements of the California State Fire Marshal for Firefighter 1. |
|
|
Students who are successful receive a certificate of completion*. |
|
|
The academy is offered each fall and spring. |
*In order to obtain the California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 certificate,
you must have at least six months experience as a full time paid firefighter or one year
experience as a volunteer firefighter
in addition to your Firefighter 1 Academy certificate.
Driver/Operator Training

|
The college offers Driver/Operator Training 1A and 1B. These courses are 40 hours in length. |
|
|
FIRE 29A-Driver/Operator 1A gives the student information on driver techniques for emergency vehicles, basic inspection and maintenance and actual driving under simulated emergency conditions. |
|
|
FIRE 29B-Driver/Operator 1B is designed to provide the student with information and skills on Pump Techniques and Operations including basic inspection. |
