Columbia College volleyball and basketball clinics this summer

If you’re looking for recreational activities to do locally this summer, be sure to check out what’s happening in volleyball and basketball, offered by Columbia College’s Community Education Department.

Starting June 16 and running through Aug. 4, an Outdoor Grass Volleyball Program will be conducted on Monday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until dark at Symons Field on the college campus.

Volleyball enthusiasts of all ages can participate and everyone will have an opportunity to play. The class is designed for intermediate to advanced volleyball players with indoor or outdoor experience. Raelene Juarez, women’s head volleyball coach, is coordinating the program.

Registration fee is $30 each (non-refundable), with parking included. For more information, call the athletic office at 588-5180. Pre-registration is recommended, but participants can also register on-site.

Nathan Rien, men’s head basketball coach, is hosting the 6th Annual Basketball Academy for boys and girls in grades 3 through 12. The summer camp will be held on July 7-10 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Oak Pavilion.

The basketball clinics will include individual instruction on the fundamentals of the game, namely offensive skills, rebounding and guards/post play. Participants will receive a T-shirt, individual analysis, a 3-on-3 tournament, games and prizes.

Cost is $75 per student, and parking is not included in the fee. Coach Rien can be reached at 588-5182 for information on the academy, or for registration details.
