Columbia College professor leads European cultural tour in May 2008

Columbia College Music Professor Rod Harris has been busy planning and organizing another of his popular European art and music tours for spring 2008. The two week trip will include the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.

Open to both Columbia College students and community members, the tour is scheduled to include numerous museums and concerts in the five countries. Some of his selected tour sites are the Anne Frank house; Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam; original ceramics in Delft, Holland; the medieval Flemish port city of Bruges, Belgium; towering Cathedral of Cologne, Germany; Beethoven Museum in the former West German capitol of Bonn; castles on a Rhine River cruise; the medieval walled city of Rothenburg, Bavaria; a visit to the former Nazi concentration camp in Dachau; walking tour and dinner at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich; Mozart concert in Salzburg, Austria; the palace in Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic; and a castle tour in the picturesque city of Prague, capital of the Czech Republic.

Departure date is planned for May 22, 2008. Signups for the trip have already started and interested parties must register before October 1. Qualified students could also earn six units of Columbia College credits in conjunction with the trip.

Estimated cost for the tour is $2,160 for students and $2,540 for those 23 and over. Price includes airfare from San Francisco to Amsterdam and the return flight from Prague, along with all ground transportation, hotels, breakfast and most tickets for admission. Daily lunches and dinners are not included. Travelers have the option of extending their trip for a small additional fee.

An information meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 p.m. in Manzanita community education room at Columbia College. Rod Harris can also be reached at 588-5211 or by email at harrisr@yosemite.edu.
