NATRE 22: Ecology and Use of Fire in Forest Ecosystems                         2 units 
Lecture:  1.5 hours
Laboratory:  1.5 hours
 
Introduction to the ecology of fire in the mixed coniferous forest and to the use of prescribed burning as a resource management tool.  Selected topics include the effects of fire on vegetation, soils, hydrology, wildlife, air quality, and esthetics; forest fire behavior and the role of fire suppression; the history and current issues or prescribed burning program in selected locations. Field trips may be required.  (MJC NR 379)
