Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS)
|
Thanks for visiting the EOPS News site. Continue to check this site as important new information will be added. Another way to get current information about EOPS is through the campus Student Bulletin. This newsletter can be picked up at various locations on campus such as the Counseling Office. It is your responsibility to be informed. Keep up on the news!
Come in and check out our new Special Programs office and waiting area. We are proud of our new professional look and hope that this helps us to serve you better. Let us know what you think.
Go to the campus website www.gocolumbia.edu or pick up a brochure that will give you information about how to activate your campus e-mail account as a student. All students are encouraged to do this as important information from the college (and EOPS) will be sent to you in this manner. Staff will assist you in setting up your account if you need help.
At this time EOPS IS accepting new applications for Fall 2008.
New students to EOPS (or those students who are returning after an absence of a semester or more) must complete a 2008-2009 EOPS application. Applications will be reviewed. Notification of eligibility status will be mailed to you. If you are potentially eligible, information about New and Returning student Intake will be sent to you.
Continuing EOPS students will not have to fill out another application.
Be sure to apply for a BOGFW fee waiver for 2008-2009.
All EOPS students are encouraged to complete a FAFSA with Financial Aid as it maximizes your financial assistance with EOPS. It is also a means of verifying your income level for eligibility purposes.
At this time no further book and parking permit assistance is available for Summer 2008. Students who received summer book assistance are required to meet with an EOPS counselor at least once during the summer.
Students with Continuing EOPS eligibility in Fall 2008 will be notified if they are eligible for an early issuance of an EOPS grant. Those eligible will be mailed an EOPS grant as part of their Financial Aid award on the first day of classes.
Students who are eligible for Continuing EOPS Student status will be able to participate in Fall 2008 Intake on the following days:
August 12, 13, and 14
August 25 and 26
Students who are eligible will be notified by mail.
Appointments will not be needed because students will be seen on a drop-in basis. Students must bring a copy of their class schedule to Intake.
Book vouchers and Parking vouchers will be issued during Intake.
EOPS Students: Educational Plans – Contact #1 (Week 1-5)
Mid-semester Progress Evaluations- Contact #2 (Week 6-10)
End-of-Term Update Activities Contact #3 (Week 11-15)
Columbia College requires that all students on Probation must complete and meet the requirements of a Probation Contract. EOPS students must meet with an EOPS counselor on a monthly basis through the semester as defined by the Probation Contract. Failure to comply with the contract or make satisfactory progress may result in being blocked from registering for classes.
Students on Probation must meet with their EOPS counselor to develop a Probation Contract. Students on Probation must get permission to register in classes from their counselor and submit this paper to Admission and Records. Students who do not take this step will be blocked from registering.
Are you an EOPS student who is enrolled in 12 units or more? Are you a single parent and head of your household (as defined by the county Department of Social Services?) Do you have a child under the age of 14? Are you receiving cash aid from the county (TANF) or are you on CalWORKs? If you can answer yes to all of these questions, please make an appointment (588-5130) to become qualified for CARE. See Susan Medeiros, CARE Coordinator, for further information.
EOPS works closely with the Disability Service program. If you think you may have a learning disability or other disability that affects your performance as a student, please contact the Disability Services office located in the same place as EOPS.
If you are planning to complete a Certificate or Associate degree in Summer 2008, make sure to fill out an application for graduation through your counselor.
If you are having problems with classes or other parts of your life, please make an appointment to see an EOPS counselor. The counselors are here to help you.
EOPS requires that students have a minimum of three contacts with an EOPS counselor within the current semester (Fall and Spring.) There are three required activities: (1) educational plan / update, (2) mid-semester progress evaluation, and (3) end-of-term update. In addition, students must make satisfactory academic progress. If on probation, students must comply with the guidelines set by the academic contract.
