Classified Senate Meeting

Nov. 30 2007 

The meeting was brought to order at 8:30 am by Interim Vice-President, Doralyn Foletti.

There were no minutes to approve and no treasurer's report.

We had a very large attendance due to the encouragement of Joan Smith and the support of the Leadership team.  It was wonderful to see so many classified members gathering together to discuss our agenda items. 

In attendance were: Doralyn Foletti, Nancy Bull, Cindy Buie, Rickee Hill, Cindy Vlahov, Linda Cross, Jeri Perez, Lonnie Blansit, Luisa Adams, Darin Blume, Steve Shively, Linda Watkins, Steve D'orsay, Elaine Urruty, Ken Ciabatti, Marvin Ghan, Chuck Cooper, Doreen Bass and Don Leyva.

Doralyn reported that Classified Senate President, Rose Hefley will be taking over her duties as soon as possible. Doralyn also reported that classified staff been volunteered to serve on four screening committees.

We spent quite a bit of quality time working on the draft of the Classified Senate Representation Areas prepared by Nancy Bull.  A few changes were made and we learned of some new hires not on the list.  Nancy will update the document based on the changes made at the meeting and forward it to Doralyn who will forward it to the classified membership upon its completion (we still need to find out the complete names of some people).  Since we came up with 7 Areas and our Policies/Procedures only allow for 4 Areas, we agreed by consensus to consider these new areas temporary until the Classified Senate can change the P&P's.  The following people stepped forward to be Area Reps - Area 1 - Luisa Adams, Area 2 - Steve D'orsay, Area 3 - Elaine Urruty, Area 4 - Rickee Hill (tentative), Area 5 - TBD, Area 6 - TBD and Area 7 - TBD.

The Senate needs to raise money for the Classified Scholarship Fund.  Ideas put forward included a tamale lunch prepared by Luisa Adams, Chili and corn bread prepared by several people and an auction of services and goods similar to what was done when the college raised money for Katrina victims.  Elaine Urruty, Cindy Vlahov and Linda Cross volunteered to work on the auction which will take place after the new year.

The Hiring Prioritization Process was explained and discussed to those not yet familiar with it. The Task Force will be meeting on December 5th.  Doralyn will be sending to the entire classified membership the documents that were available at today's meeting for everyone's review.  She encouraged everyone to read the documents and encourage others to read and have open dialogue with each other regarding the HPP then please forward comments and suggestions to her or Nancy Bull. Input is greatly needed form all classified staff.

The next Classified Senate Meeting will be held on In-Service Day.
