STAND ALONE CREDIT COURSE TRAINING

The training was called to order at 3:20pm by Joe Ryan

1. Changes in TITLE V
There are changes in TITLE V that will be affecting curriculum. This training is due to 1 of these changes.
Handouts:
A. Article Changes
B. Local Approval of Credit Courses
C. Example of Courses that have been denied
D. Standards and Criteria for Courses
Program Applicable: Credit course usually 18 units or more (Slide 3).
Stand Alone : Credit course or restrictive elective (Slide 3)
· These new changes apply to new courses only and are not retro.
· State Chancellor’s office site gives information if a course is a stand alone course or not.
· The Curriculum Committee will need to come up with a new name for certificates not approved by the Systems Office.
· Local approval of stand alone courses is now permitted
· Complied stand alone courses will receive a control number from Systems Board.
· Stand alone courses cannot be offered until term following Board approval.

Training must be done by September 30th
of each year and district will submit by September 30th. It was
mentioned that
· Previously denied courses cannot be resubmitted to the Curriculum Committee unless prescribe changes have been made.
· Course repeatability went up: Can be taken 2 times without petition with a grade of NC, D or F. Only 4 withdraws from a course are allowed.
· Out-of-Class assignments are in “Credit Only” classes
· Syllabus will accompany all new course proposals.

Elizondo would like for Curriculum Committee members to receive packets ahead
of time to look at before meetings.

check and see if questions on proposal forms still relate

Need to
check and see if our current Board approval will be ok with the System Board,
since our Board gives authority to college Presidents and Vice Presidents of
Instruction.
