CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at 3:18 pm by Joe Ryan.

INFORMATION ITEMS

 

1.       Electronic changes to courses during meetings.  To expedite the final approval and entry of courses into Datatel, revisions made to curriculum forms in committee will be recorded, viewed and approved during committee meetings whenever feasible.

1.       Child Development:  Modification of Certificate

CHILD 2 replaced by new course – CHILD 4, Observation and Assessment.  All other course requirements remain the same.  Correction made: ENGL 151 is now 5 units.  Total units modified from 32-34 to 34-36.  Minor corrections made to modification proposal form.  Effective Term:  Fall 2008

Adrienne Webster explained that CHILD 4 is part of a plan to bring child development programs into alignment with State requirements.

Questions included the number of actual class hours (7 versus 8) and whether some of the hours should be lab.

Questions included whether Days 3 and 4 should be lab hours, and the appropriateness of prerequisite courses.

Tim Elizondo felt that the course content was too generic – that it should more clearly relate to the preparation of instructors in the field of fire technology.

Earlier in the meeting, Steve Herzog gave background information regarding this course, and mentioned that in the future the course should be cross-listed with Search and Rescue.  Jean Mallory recommended presenting course objectives differently in future course proposals.

FIRE 270CP – Fire Operations in the Urban Interface - discontinue effective Spring 2008

FIRE 270CS – Interagency Incident Business Management - discontinue effective Spring 2008

 

ACTION:              To consider all four course discontinuances as a package.

DISCUSSION ITEMS

 

1.       Changes in Liberal Studies Majors:  Drafts developed by the Counseling Department have been reviewed by the Executive Board and will now be forwarded to the State Chancellor’s office for feedback.  This will give us necessary information regarding what the State considers acceptable, since no guidelines have been issued.  The revisions will then return to the Curriculum Committee for full review, discussion and action.
